Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department (ELVPHD) has received has received Partnerships for Success funding through the Department of Health and Human Services and Region 4 Behavioral Health Systems to implement youth focused programming to inform and reduce student drug and alcohol use in Madison County. Youth Program Coordinator, Kirk Van Pelt, will collaborate with Madison County schools and organizations to implement the following activities:
- Collaborate with Madison County High Schools to implement youth-based substance abuse prevention groups
- Work with existing youth-focused drug and alcohol prevention groups to expand their efforts
- Collaborate with Northeast Community College to implement college student specific activities
- Coordinate with The Zone to reach youth with evidence-based substance abuse prevention programming
Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department has been working closely with schools and other organizations to reduce drug and alcohol abuse in our service area for many years through the Healthy Communities Initiative coalition. According to Mr. Van Pelt, “We are excited to expand our drug and alcohol prevention reach with the Partnerships for Success funding as it will allow for us to focus on building youth partnerships and to work directly with students and schools to shape youth decisions regarding drug and alcohol use.”
