Radio station KQKX, better known as 106 KIX in Norfolk, is conducting what they call the Kix Cool Pool tour this summer, and the tour will be making a stop in Battle Creek on July 15 from noon to 3:00 p.m. Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) is a substance abuse prevention group focusing on underage drinking and drug use. Kathy Becker, Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator, says the cool pool tour is a perfect opportunity to reach out to kids to warn them about the dangers of making bad choices as it relates to drug and alcohol abuse. HCI is one of many sponsors and will be there with a drug display board and various substance abuse brochures. HCI has also donated free giveaways (Stay Drug Free coloring books and funky pens) for the kids. There will be t-shirts and other prizes provided by other sponsors and 106Kix.
HCI serves the counties of Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton in Northeast Nebraska. If you would like to inquire about educational opportunities for your community or school, contact Kathy Becker at Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department at 402-529-2233.
The Madison County HCI Coalition meeting takes place on the fourth Tuesday each month from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Meetings are held in the conference room at the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department-Norfolk office located at 302 Phillip Avenue, Norfolk, NE. All are invited to attend.
