Breast Cancer Screenings provided by the Missing Link – Komen Program

Thursday, March 26, 2015

Through the Missing Link – Komen breast health program, Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department was able to assist 24 women with preventative exams and mammograms.   The women assisted by the program were underinsured and/or not eligible for other assistance programs such as Every Woman Matters.  The services provided included a clinical breast exam, screening mammogram and radiology services.  Diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds were also provided as needed. It is through the generosity and assistance from the following partners that the program was able to assist the women in need:  Dinklage Medical Clinic, St. Francis Memorial Hospital and Medical Imaging Consultants.  Funding for this program was provided by the Community Access to Coordinated Health, Inc. via a grant from the Komen Foundation.

Providing preventative screening opportunities is one of the priorities of the health district’s Community Health Improvement Plan.  Local statistics show that 75.5% of women 50 and older have had a mammogram in the past two years.  This is lower than the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Healthy People 2020 target for 81.1% of all women aged 50-74 to get screened for breast cancer every two years.  For more information about the Missing Link - Komen program, please contact the Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department at 402-529-2233.
