The 27th Children’s Dental Day was held on 2/6/15. The UNMC College of Dentistry hosts this day annually to assist children in need of dental services, who are uninsured or underinsured, to receive the necessary care. Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department works with area schools in Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton counties to identify children which are in need of the dental services and works with local dental providers to pre-screen and identify the services needed for each child before the annual dental day in Lincoln. Fifty-four total students from Lyons, Madison, Norfolk, Oakland and Stanton were provided dental services. The total cost of the dental procedures that were completed was $20,586.00 and the following types of procedures were performed: fluoride & sealants, fillings and extractions. Providing the Children’s Dental Day each year is a collaborative effort by the health department, local dental providers, area schools and the UNMC College of Dentistry. The following organizations collaborated with Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department to make the 2015 Children’s Dental Day a success: Midtown Health Center Dental Clinic, Family Dental of West Point, Oakland-Craig Public Schools, Lyons-Decatur Public Schools, Madison Public Schools, Norfolk Public Schools and Stanton Public Schools.
