One in four older adults has a fall each year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But falls are not a normal part of aging and can be prevented. The Stepping On program, offered in Norfolk by ELVPHD, has been researched and proven to reduce falls by 31%. The Stepping On classes will be held each Monday at 9am starting July 19th for 7 weeks at the Norfolk Senior Center.
Stepping On gives participants the strategies for avoiding falls including balance and strength exercises, home safety checklist suggestions, medication review, and more. Guest experts at the sessions will include a physical therapist, pharmacist and others. The workshop is designed specifically for people who age 60 or older who had a fall or those who are concerned about preventing falls.
