Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department (ELVPHD) serving the counties of Burt, Cuming, Stanton and Madison, is proud to announce that Kathy Becker and Maritza Andrade have been selected to participate as Year 10 scholars to The Great Plains Public Health Leadership Institute (GPPHLI). Ms. Becker serves as the Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator for the Healthy Communities Initiative Coalition and Ms. Andrade serves as the Minority Health Educator at ELVPHD.
Established in 2005, GPPHLI resides within the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Public Health. GPPHLI is a regional, year-long program designed to build and enhance the leadership skills of emerging, mid-level and senior leaders from the Great Plains Region (Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota) who play essential roles in the public health system.
Since its inception, GPPHLI has trained over 175 professionals who care about the future of the public's health. Currently, GPPHLI is entering its tenth year of providing leadership development for a broad cohort of stakeholders from governmental public health, to insurance companies, from community health centers to civic and elected leaders.
The GPPHLI curriculum consists of 3 onsite retreats and monthly distance learning webinars. Additionally, scholars participate in a Mentor/Mentee relationship, two professional coaching experiences, peer coaching pairings, and a group-based project to strengthen their leadership skills outside of the formal training setting.
The goals of GPPHLI are to:
· Assure and enhance leadership knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies in the public health workforce of the Great Plains region;
· Increase the value of public health within communities through greater leadership in action; and
· Expand relationships among public health leaders in our region.
