Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI), a drug abuse prevention group that serves the counties of Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton in Nebraska, was recently awarded a Region 4 Behavioral Health System grant.
The focus of the new grant will be to implement the following programs:
-
LifeSkills Training program in two schools in the service area. This is a program which teaches students how to make healthy choices and resist drug use and other unsafe behaviors.
- College Alcohol Profile (CAP) and eCheck will be used at Northeast Community College (NECC) for new freshman students living on campus. These are internet tools used to prevent alcohol and marijuana usage.
- Responsible Beverage Server Training classes will be offered to licensed alcohol sellers and their staff every three months or more often if needed.
- WhyTry for 4th-6th grade students in Madison and Norfolk as voluntary after school program. This program encourages students to choose responsible behaviors including choosing to be alcohol and drug free.
