Radio station KQKX, better known as 106 KIX in Norfolk, is conducting what they call the Kix Cool Pool tour this summer, and the tour kicked-off with a stop in Madison on June 10, 2015. The pool provided FREE swimming from noon to 3:00 p.m. Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) is a substance abuse prevention group focusing on underage drinking and drug use. Kathy Becker, Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator, said the cool pool tour was a perfect opportunity to reach out to kids to warn them about the dangers of making bad choices as it relates to drug and alcohol abuse. The turnout at the pool was great! At least two (2) HCI representatives were present and on duty at all times to answer questions and direct the attention of the inquiring youngsters to various pamphlets and items on the drug board display. At one point during the event, grade school and middle school children were standing three (3) deep at the HCI table. There were free t-shirts and other prizes provided by other sponsors and 106Kix.
HCI serves the counties of Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton in Northeast Nebraska. If you would like to inquire about educational opportunities for your community or school, contact Kathy Becker at Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department at 402-529-2233.
