Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department (ELVPHD) has declared that March is for Mammograms and is working with women throughout the service area to remind and encourage women to complete their mammogram if they are due or overdue for that important lifesaving screening. Early detection is the best prevention and mammograms help greatly in finding breast cancer early. Women aged 40+ should get a mammogram every 1-2 years depending upon risk factors and age.
During the months of March through May 2022, ELVPHD is hosting a campaign to encourage women to complete their mammograms and report in that they have completed this important lifesaving screening. Women who participate will be eligible to win a $100 gift card to a restaurant of their choice and are being offered free bloodwork (cholesterol and glucose) screenings. Jill Lewis, Public Health Nurse with ELVPHD says, “We know that women are often juggling many daily tasks and concentrating on taking care of their family’s needs. We want to encourage women to make their health a priority and take a few minutes to schedule a mammogram if they have been delaying this important lifesaving screening.”
To participate in ELVPHD’s March is for Mammograms promotion, women can do the following:
- Call to schedule your mammogram with your provider / mammogram facility
- If women are unsure how to get scheduled, have questions about mammograms or are uninsured and unsure which steps to take next then please call ELVPHD at 402-529-3587. One of our public health nurses will help with questions and help enroll women who are eligible in the Every Woman Matters program.
- Once your mammogram is complete, then register for the restaurant gift card giveaway and optional free cholesterol and glucose screening at ELVPHD’s online form: https://bit.ly/3HGvrIn
We hope all women who are currently due or overdue for their mammogram will take the few minutes to get scheduled during our Spring promotion. Our desire is to see women take charge of their health by setting aside a few minutes to complete their mammogram.
