Permanent Medication Disposal Site in West Point
West Point and surrounding community citizens looking to dispose of unwanted and expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications no longer need to wait for a specific take-back event to clean out their medicine cabinets. The West Point Police Department has a permanent, safe and secure drop-off site. Medications can be dropped off Monday thru Friday from 9am to 5pm at the West Point Police Department.
Funding for the program was provided by Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) coalition and incineration fees by St Francis Memorial Hospital.
Permanent Medication Disposal Site in Norfolk
Citizens looking to dispose of excess and expired prescription and over-the-counter medications can visit the permanent drop-off location at the Norfolk Police Department. Medications can be conveniently dropped off in the lobby of the Norfolk Police Department (202 N. 7th St.) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Syringes (sharps) and certain other items that are not accepted are listed on the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit.
The MedReturn Drug Collection unit has collected over 532 pounds of medication since it was installed in June 2013. This unit is a project of the Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) coalition which is a substance abuse prevention coalition that serves Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton Counties. Funding for the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit was provided by Drug Free Communities grant funds.
